iHeartRadio Reaches 10 Million Registered Users in Just Eight Months
Faster Than Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Spotify and Instagram — Just Eight Months Since Its Launch at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas
More than 45 Million Monthly Digital Uniques Across iHeartRadio Network in April
New York, NY – May 17, 2012 – Clear Channel Media and Entertainment today announced that its popular iHeartRadio digital radio platform has reached 10 million registered users, a milestone reached in only eight months – faster than all other popular entertainment and communication platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Spotify and Instagram. Registered users are only a percentage of iHeartRadio’s overall listeners, since registration is only required for the Custom Station feature.
The iHeartRadio digital platform brings incremental listening to Clear Channel’s 237 million monthly listeners, the largest audience of any media outlet in the U.S. Broadcast stations continue to dominate listenership, accounting for 98 percent of Clear Channel’s overall listening, and iHeartRadio provides yet another platform for Clear Channel listeners to access their favorite radio stations, Custom Stations and non-audio content. The entire iHeartRadio network had more than 45 million monthly digital uniques in April.
iHeartRadio delivers everything listeners want in one free, fully-integrated service: instant access to more than 800 of the nation’s most popular live broadcast and digital-only radio stations from 150 cities, plus user-created Custom Stations inspired by favorite artists and songs. Earlier this month, Clear Channel announced a major update to iHeartRadio for iPad App that included a completely refreshed design with new functionality, including industry-leading Custom Stations and support for the Retina display in addition to a strong social integration with Facebook.
“iHeartRadio has demonstrated incredibly rapid adoption, more than two times faster than other leading entertainment services – it’s mind-blowing. We are thrilled with the consumer reaction and feedback,” said Brian Lakamp, President of Digital for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. “Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, using the tremendous promotional power of our broadcast radio properties, has been able to drive this adoption like no other company could. iHeartRadio offers a great product supported by unparalleled promotional capabilities.”
“This rapid growth of iHeartRadio underscores Clear Channel’s strong consumer bond and unmatched ability to reach our listeners no matter where they are, with the programming and services they expect,” said John Hogan, Chairman and CEO, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. “This is a reflection on how consumers are embracing digital as one more way to use our broadcast brands and we plan to continue this growth and further expand our platform, offering our listeners a well-rounded, fully integrated product and our advertising and marketing partners a powerful way to engage their consumers. We take being a multiplatform company seriously.”
